About |
Bula! I am a social scientist and geographer from Fiji with an interdisciplinary background in geography, politics, and history. Currently, I am a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Otago. My expertise lies in climate- and disaster-related mobility research and policy, particularly in terms Oceania, addressing displacement and migration issues. My doctoral research is grounded in qualitative and empirical fieldwork focusing on understanding 'South-South migration in the Pacific Islands region in the context of climate change'. Recently, I was a Visiting Fellow at the National Centre of Competence in Research for the Migration-Mobility Nexus (NCCR – on the move), University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. I have taught at the University of the South Pacific (USP) and the University of Otago. My professional experience includes roles at the Platform on Disaster Displacement, the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Pacific Climate Change Migration and Human Security Programme, the Fiji government, and UNICEF. I hold a BA in geography and political science from USP and a PGDip in geography from the University of Otago. I have extensive field-based research experience in both rural and urban areas in Fiji and the wider Pacific region, as well as substantial experience in engaging with local communities. |
