About
Janette Wunggulbuma Murrungun is a Numburindi woman from Numbulwar, a remote Aboriginal community in South East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia. Janette is the custodian for her homeland at Gululutj (Rocky Point), and speaks her traditional language Wubuy.

A master of Numburindi fibre art, Janette holds deep knowledge around sourcing plants for string-making, natural dyeing and traditional weaving practices. An accomplished weaver, Janette has also developed her own original approach to weaving with ghost nets, or abandoned commercial fishing gear that drifts through currents and causes significant environmental issues for Numburindi people.

A passionate leader in the continuation of her culture, language and art practices, Janette is Art Centre Coordinator at the local art centre, Numbulwar Numburindi Arts. In 2024, Janette graduated from the Arts Worker Extension Program, a professional development program delivered by industry peak body, ANKA. Janette has delivered talks and public programs at Melbourne Design Week and Tarnanthi, a contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts festival by the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Janette is a board member of Numburindi Corporation, using her position in the community to advocate for the benefits of the art centre for both individual and communal wellbeing, as well as its role in transmitting significant cultural knowledge and skills to new generations.
