European Society for Oceanists 2022 Conference : Venue

The conference will take place in Ajaccio, Corsica, France.
Pronounced Aiacciu [aˈjattʃu] in Corsican, it is the head-city of South-Corsica and the largest settlement on the island.
With over 70 000 inhabitants, Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica. Port city on the west coast of the island, it is the town that saw the birth of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1769, whose ancestral home, the Bonaparte house, is now a museum. The baroque Notre-Dame cathedral, erected in the 16th century, houses paintings by Delacroix and Tintoretto.
The conference will take place in two main locations:
- The welcome cocktail, panels and most coffee and lunch breaks will take place at the Lycée Fesch (5 Cours Grandval), which is a high school located in the center of Ajaccio, close to the sea, the cathedral, and the pedestrian zone with its many coffees and restaurants. Note that all rooms of the Lycée Fesch are equiped with projectors.
- Keynote lectures and round tables will take place at the Espace Diamant (Boulevard Pascal Rossini), the town theatre of Ajaccio, which is 5 minutes walking distance from the Lycée Fesch. It is located on the sea front, equally close to coffees, restaurants and even the beach.
Raymond Firth plenary lecture, ESfO General Meeting and Conference Dinner
The Raymond Firth Plenary Lecture, the ESfO General meeting and the Conference Dinner will take place on the last day, the 5th of June, in the afternoon and evening at a different location. Buses will be organized for transport to and from this location. More information will be available soon. We hope you can all stay in Ajaccio for these events. And note that the conference registration fee includes the conference dinner.
